Issue:
The Zaatari Refugee Camp, home to over 80,000 refugees, faced severe challenges with poor water and wastewater services. This made life even harder for residents who had already suffered from being displaced by war, affecting their health, dignity, and day-to-day living.

Initiative:

To address these critical issues, SAJDI, in collaboration with UNICEF, embarked on a project to overhaul the camp’s water and wastewater infrastructure by design and construction supervision of the following:

  1. Installation of 160 km HDPE wastewater pipes.
  2. Installation of 200 km HDPE water pipes.
  3. Construction of 240 km water house connections.
  4. Construction of two wastewater-pumping stations.
  5. Installation of nine water pump stations, water booster pumps, isolating valves, flow control valves, washout, air valves, and flow meters, generators, chlorine system and odor system.
  6. SCADA and control systems implementation.
  7. Construction of a WWTP including Membrane Bioreactor with four streamlines.
